Narrative text is a fictional story or an essay made to entertain the reader. We usually encounter narrative texts in the form of fairy tales, folk tales, and other fictional stories.
B. Purpose Of Narrative Text :
As mentioned above, is to entertain the reader/listener in a story with sequential events that lead to a climax, and finally find a solution.
C. Generic Structure Of Narrative Text :
a.) Orientation; the Orientation section contains the introduction of the characters, the background of the place and time of the story. (who, what, when and where)
b.) Complication; the complication section, problems begin to arise and must be resolved by the main character in the story.
c.) Resolution; Resolution is where the story ends. In this section the problem is solved by the main character. In the Resolution section, there is usually a moral value or advice from the story or what is also known as the Coda.
D. Characteristics of Narrative Text :
~ Using the Action Verb in the Past Tense form. example: Walked, Said, Wondered, etc.
~ Using certain nouns as pronouns for people, animals and certain objects in the story.
example: the princess, the girl, the queen, etc.
~ Using Adjectives that form noun phrases. example: The red riding hood, the poisoned apple, etc.
~ Using Time Connectives and Conjunctions to sequence events.
example: before, after, then, next, soon, etc.
~ Using Adverbs and Adverbial Phrase to indicate the location of events or events. For example: on the sea, in the mountain, there, happily ever after, etc
E. Types of Narrative Text :
Narrative text can be imaginary or factual. Here is an example of a genre from Narrative text:
